What kids should know about Merdeka.

by Umbi Kids 25 Aug 2022

Malaysia gained its independence from the British on August 31st in 1957. It is also broadly known as Hari kebangsaan Malaysia, Merdeka Day, National Day, and Malaysia Independence Day.

Merdeka Day is a public holiday that falls on the 31st of August every year in Malaysia. There will be a big celebration with participation from all walks of life: various government and public services, school, cultural performance, marching bands, and many more.

The annual parade used to be held at Merdeka Square. However, in recent years it has moved places. It is now held in Putra Square in Putrajaya. Putrajaya is the federal administrative centre on Malaysia.
